CORPORATE ESG ACTIVITIES · PLANNING GUIDE

Planning a corporate ESG activity? Start with what it should leave behind

Most companies run at least one ESG activity a year. The hard part usually isn't finding a venue, it's afterwards: the report needs to describe implementation, and all you have is a few photos and a headcount. This page sets out the common types of ESG activity, what each one leaves you with, and the 5 fields an activity plan should cover.

What kinds of ESG activities are there?

The same half day can leave you with very different results. Look at the right-hand column before you choose.

The 5 fields every ESG activity plan needs

Whichever activity you choose, filling in these 5 fields makes the plan easier to approve and the report easier to write.

  1. 01

    Purpose

Which of your company's sustainability goals, or which section of your report, this activity responds to. Write this first; it tells you what to record later.

  2. 02

    Participants and headcount

Employees, family members or clients, and roughly how many. Headcount drives venue, transport and the quote.

  3. 03

    Programme

Start and finish times, what happens, and who leads it. The baseline requirement: someone with no experience at all can take part.

  4. 04

    How results are measured

Hours, seedlings, purchase amount, beneficiary organisations. Decide which numbers to record before the day, not after.

  5. 05

    Evidence and deliverables

Who provides the sign-in sheet, photos, handover form and supporting documents, and when. This is where organisers most often get stuck.

Frequently asked questions

What kinds of corporate ESG activities are there?

There are six common types: environmental volunteering (clean-ups, tree planting), social-welfare volunteering, farm volunteer days, family days, social or sustainable procurement (for example buying festival gift boxes from a social enterprise), and internal sustainability learning. The difference is where the results go and whether they can be verified: the same half day can leave you with only photos and a headcount, or with hours, seedlings handed over and a handover form that can go into your report.

How do we choose an ESG activity?

Ask three things first: will employees actually do hands-on work? Do the results have a clear destination? Which documents will you have afterwards? At Selvans volunteer days and family days, the seedlings employees raise are handed over to social-welfare farms with a handover form stamped by both parties and a Sustainability Volunteer Certificate, and we deliver an ESG data summary after the event.

Where can the results go in our sustainability report?

Headcount, hours, seedlings handed over and handover documents are records of implementation and supporting evidence for social disclosures, for example under S-3 (community development) and G-32 (concrete sustainability action plans and results). Selvans also provides report wording templates you can adapt. Exactly how to write it depends on your company's sustainability goals and disclosure framework.

Can small and medium-sized companies run ESG activities too?

Yes. You don't have to start big: a single festival gift-box order or one half-day volunteer day both leave results you can record. The standard size for a volunteer day is 20–40 people; for smaller groups, ask whether you can join another session.

Can activities or purchases from Selvans be filed under Buying Power?

Yes. Selvans is registered in the Ministry of Economic Affairs' Social Innovation Organisation Database, so both volunteer days and gift boxes count as procurement from a social innovation organisation. We provide proof of purchase and an impact statement, and your company files the claim.

How is pricing worked out?

Volunteer days are NT$850–1,500 per person, family days NT$1,500–2,500 per person, and ESG gift boxes from NT$500 per box (indicative, adjusted to the actual programme); the actual quote depends on headcount, programme and where you travel from. Tell us your date, approximate headcount and what you would like to do, and within two working days we will send a written quote and available dates.
