Where do Selvans' ESG figures come from?
The question a corporate sustainability lead actually faces is rarely whether a number looks good, but what they can produce when an assessor or auditor asks about it. This page sets out how each published Selvans figure is produced and verified, and what each one does and does not cover.
Four checkpoints from the field to your report

Weekly reporting by the farms
Each week, the eight partner farms run by social-welfare organisations log that week's fieldwork, participants and hours, harvest volume, environmental observations and any pesticide use in the Selvans farm reporting system. Reporting happens week by week — it is not reconstructed from memory afterwards.

Report-by-report checks and review
Every weekly report is checked against a set of rules (hours, dates, declarations, anomalies) as soon as it is submitted; anything questionable goes to an administrator for manual review, and every report involving a corporate visit is reviewed manually. Reports also carry a social-worker confirmation field. Reports that fail review never appear in any published figure.

System aggregation and tracking
Approved reports are aggregated automatically into cumulative indicators — 28 in total — covering disability employment, local procurement, biodiversity, climate action and supply-chain governance.

Disclosure and audit
The aggregated results are published on the sustainability dashboard, and corporate partners can additionally obtain an evidence trail traceable to the reporting week and farm. When an assessor or auditor challenges a figure, it can be traced back to the original weekly report.

We also state the limits of our figures
The annual herb production Selvans quotes publicly is the farms' actual yearly output. The harvest volume shown on the dashboard counts only what approved weekly reports have logged since the reporting system went live, so it covers less than actual output.
We have not merged the two into a single, better-looking number. An auditable figure earns its value from having clearly stated boundaries, not from being large.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Selvans' ESG data produced, and can it be audited?
The data comes from weekly reports logged in the system by eight partner farms run by social-welfare organisations, covering fieldwork, participation hours, harvest volume and environmental observations. Each report is checked by the system, with anything questionable sent for manual review, before it counts. Corporate partners can obtain an evidence trail traceable to the reporting week and farm, so a challenged figure can be traced back to the original record.
Why is the harvest volume on the dashboard smaller than the annual production Selvans quotes publicly?
The two figures measure different things. The published annual herb production is the farms' actual yearly output; the dashboard's harvest volume counts only what was logged in approved weekly reports after the reporting system went live, so its coverage is narrower by design. Selvans publishes the smaller auditable figure rather than blending the two.
Which international frameworks does the data map to?
Selvans maintains two indicator sets for different purposes. Corporate partnership data maps primarily to ESG assessment indicators G-32 and S-3; E-16 and E-14 can serve as implementation evidence for policies your company has already established. The 28 system-tracked impact indicators map to GRI, SDG or TNFD. Their scopes differ, so please cite them separately.
Which figures are manually verified, and which update automatically?
Selvans binds figures individually rather than automating in bulk. Only fields explicitly designated for linking — the number of partner farms, or cumulative hours from approved weekly reports, for example — are overwritten by live system values; the rest remain manually verified. Manually maintained figures and system figures do not always measure the same thing, and automating everything would make numbers move while quietly changing their meaning.
What is the "chain" on the Impact Data page, and why does it stop before impact?
It is the logic model used in impact evaluation: what Selvans puts in, what we do, what can be counted, what has changed, and finally the wider social impact. The four SDG cards stop at outcomes. Outputs use live figures from approved weekly reports; outcomes include only figures the system can calculate or qualitative feedback with a stated source. Longer-term impact and annual targets are recorded in the impact white paper Selvans publishes each year, and 2030 targets are listed separately — they are not results.
How is product safety confirmed?
Selvans products are tested for pesticide residue every six months and held to zero detection. Every gift box includes an impact data card and QR traceability, showing the batch's farm, harvest date, harvest method and cultivation record.
